Heifer Rearing Project

Heifer Rearing Program implemented to increase genetically superior animals with high milk productivity at the doorstep of farmers. Main objectives of the programme is to create good replacement stock to be made available to the farmers at reasonable price, to reduce calf mortality, to induce scientific calf rearing practices/concept among milk producers, to reduce Age at first calving, to increase productive life of animal and to train tribal women on Animal Husbandry through pregnant cow care and heifer rearing programme. It has been suggested by dairy cooperatives partner that the Heifer rearing can be introduced as new activity under the project.

The project aims to enhance the productivity of milch animal by providing improved breeding, feeding & management services. As the quality semen is being provided by district dairy cooperatives and other govt./support agencies, but the animals couldn't be utilized to their full potential due to poor feeding and management practices.
